TxDOT’s Austin District is looking for a Design Engineer I, II, or III (Transportation Engineer) located in our Georgetown Area Office. This position performs transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.

Minimum Salary: 65,104.00  Maximum Salary: 129,430.00  (Annually)

Travel: Yes, 5 % of the time (Remote work may be eligible up to 3 days per week)

Essential Duties:

The essential duties for a Design Engineer (Transportation Engineer) I, II, or III include:

–          Analyzes and recommends approval for modifications to highway maintenance contracts.

–          Assists in overseeing construction project traffic control plans; periodically reviews traffic control devices with Area Engineers

–          Assists in reviewing shop drawings prepared by fabricators for bridges and related structures.

–          Assists in the development, preparation and letting of maintenance contracts for the district.

–          Assists with design computer operations and plan preparation.

–          Coordinates and monitors assigned projects/programs/plans.

–          Coordinates on design schematics, assists with capacity and level of service studies and reviews in-house and consultant traffic control/traffic management/intelligent with transportation systems (ITS) plans of and projects.

–          Coordinates phases of of preliminary design and revisions in PS&E with districts, divisions, Administration, the FHWA, contractors, fabricators, Corps of Engineers and local entities.

–          Develops and reviews engineering related documents, correspondence, reports and remediation plans.

–          Drives/travels to project/work locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and to provide technical support.

–          Monitors consultant design contracts.

–          Monitors consultants’ progress and work quality, checks invoices and associated documents; prepares supplemental agreements.

–          Performs and coordinates the review and processing of Plans, Specifications and Estimates (PS&E) submission, special specifications or special provisions.

–          Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. This position requires you to drive for the State.
