The WI Department of Transportation (WisDOT), Division of Transportation System Development (DTSD) is seeing an interested and qualified individual to fill a Utility Coordinator (Transportation Specialist Senior) vacancy in the North Central Region!

This full-time position will be headquartered in Wisconsin Rapids or Rhinelander, WI.

Position Summary
This position functions within the North Central Region (NCR) Technical Services Section (TSS) on the Utility team, performing various duties related to utility coordination on transportation improvement projects in both the construction and design phases. Under general supervision, this position performs as a member of a team or individually and performs engineering duties in the functional areas of design and/or construction. This position is responsible for the utility coordination in the development of highway improvement projects in accordance with the established facilities development process and pertinent rules and regulations. This position works closely with Project Development Section (PDS) project managers to resolve issues and concerns. This position is also responsible for multiple program issues relating to utilities coordination, performance monitoring and reporting, and construction program support. The position is responsible for review, authorization, and issuance of large/major utility maintenance and relocations involving utility modifications, and miscellaneous work within the highway rights-of-way of NCR. This position coordinates maintenance work with other regional units, utilities, municipalities, and other partners to ensure their familiarity with compliance of construction and traffic control

This position must develop and maintain professional and cooperative working relationships with utility companies, local officials, department staff, consultants, and contractors. The essential functions of this position require possessing and using engineering skills in preparing and reviewing construction plans and specifications, as well as knowledge of construction method and utility practices.

Salary Information
This position is in schedule-range 14-14 with an annual salary of $63,170 – $72,800, plus excellent benefits. A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

Job Details

This position offers a hybridized work schedule. The position will be headquartered at and required for work from the DTSD North Central Region office in Rhinelander or Wisconsin Rapids at least two days per week. All employees working a hybrid work schedule are still expected to telework from within the state of Wisconsin. This topic will be discussed more at the time of interview.

Qualifications
Qualified applicants will have experience with the following:

  • Experience reading and interpreting highway plans and/or right-of-way plats.
    • Activities may include interpreting roadway profiles, cross sections, property boundaries, technical documents, etc.
  • Experience working concurrently on multiple assignments in various stages of completion.
