The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials is currently hiring an Associate Project Manager, a full-time position located in our Washington, DC office.
Nature of Position:
The Associate Project Manager provides technical and project management support to the AASHTOWare Director and/or Product Director in the cooperative development of multiple computer software products and assists in the management of the software products (AASHTOWare®). The incumbent provides support in a number of technical, management and administrative areas including technical oversight of the software development activities, as well as in the support and maintenance of existing software products. The incumbent also assists in the solicitation and development process for new enhancements, including the development of requests for proposals, and the review, editing and preparation of various technical documents related to joint development activities, and other duties as assigned. In addition, the Associate Project Manager coordinates with the Associate Customer Success Product Manager on activities involving customer interaction and also coordinates with the marketing team on activities related to AASHTOWare product marketing. The Associate Project Manager takes direction from one or more Product Directors, but at times may take direction from the Director of AASHTOWare.
In response to frequent external inquiries, the incumbent assists the Product Director, the Director of AASHTOWare, or the AASHTOWare Senior Business Operations Manager in responding to requests for information regarding AASHTO’s software development activities and licensing procedures, monitoring the collection and disbursement of funds relating to software development and licensing activities, preparing and tracking of task force/committee ballots, and preparing periodic reports on license fee collection and product expenses.
The incumbent will participate in the long-range planning and budget development. The Associate Project Manager may also provide assistance to one or more Product Directors in their duties as the staff liaison for one or more AASHTO committees which conduct business that is relevant to AASHTOWare products.
The Associate Project Manager may attend task force and other related committee meetings, assists in the preparation of meeting agendas and meeting logistics; disseminates informational material to committee members; provides other assistance as required; and must be able to travel 90 – 110 days per year.
Position Requirements:
The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of professional level experience in a closely related field. A bachelor’s degree, preferably in civil engineering or computer science, is required. Evidence of a higher degree of professional development, such as postgraduate education or professional registration, is highly desired.
Previous experience in the development of computer software projects is highly desirable. The successful candidate will have considerable knowledge of the technical aspects of the software development lifecycle and methodologies, and the issues related to software development project management. Technical skills in the areas of software engineering are desirable.
Excellent written and oral communication skills are required, including the ability to effectively communicate and to work cooperatively with contractors, staff, and task force members. The incumbent must have the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
The incumbent must be able to travel an estimated 90-110 days per year.

Perks and Benefits:
This position primarily reports out of our Washington, DC office located in Metro Center. AASHTO offers employees hybrid work schedules, with remote work up to 2-3 days/week.
The salary range for this position is $75,000 – 105,000.
