The WI Department of Transportation (WisDOT), Division of Transportation System Development (DTSD) is seeking an interested and qualified individual to fill a Financial Specialist Senior vacancy in the Bureau of Highway Maintenance!

This full-time position can be headquartered in Madison.

Position Summary
This position performs financial tasks related to the procurement and payment of state-furnished materials.  It also functions as a purchasing resource, possessing the ability to offer advice on policy and procedures, help analyze problems, create purchase orders, help prepare and revise specifications and contract provisions related to state-furnished materials purchases, assist with the rest area maintenance contract, and support consultant contracting efforts.  It also assists in the collection of data for financial reporting required of the Bureau of Highway Maintenance (BHM).

This position performs a variety of financial tasks within the bureau.  These activities require knowledge of both a specialized Maintenance Program Management (MPM) software system and the department’s overall financial management system, PeopleSoft, to perform a variety of budget monitoring, project establishment, and payment processing demands.  This position has responsibilities for supporting section efforts related to these demands and, when possible, for providing advice and training in system use, system maintenance, and processing transactions.

Salary Information
This position is in schedule-range 02-13 with an hourly salary of $23.93 ($49,774.40 annually), plus excellent benefits. A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

Qualifications
Qualified applicants will have experience with all the following:

  • Experience with basic accounting methods and practices.
    • Activities may include cash management, creating financial reports, reviewing financial reports or documents for accuracy, balancing budgets, handling state or federal funds, etc.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) or similar products.
    • Activities may include creating/reviewing reports in Word or Excel, utilizing Outlook for meetings/emails, preparing correspondence for others, etc.
  • Experience interpreting and applying laws, rules, policies, and procedures.
