The WI Department of Transportation (WisDOT), Division of Transportation System Development (DTSD) is seeking an interested and qualified individual to fill a Region Railroad Coordinator (Transportation Specialist Senior or Advanced) – Project Position for the North Central Region!
This full time project position can be headquartered in either Wisconsin Rapids, WI or Rhinelander, WI.
As Region Railroad Coordinator, this position functions as the primary contact for all railroad related activities and is the sole coordinator for the Region railroad program. This position is tasked with performing the coordination of highway-railroad activities on highway engineering projects and local projects that have Federal or State funds involving grade crossings and signals, grade separations, encroachments and land interests on railroad property. The work assignments are broad in scope and require independent judgment in decision-making; the work is performed in response to program needs as interpreted by the employee with little or no review of the work. This position utilizes a high degree of initiative in problem solving, managing multiple priorities, responding and communicating to demands by multiple internal and external customers.
This position serves as the resource for all Region railroad construction contracts, enforces contract plans and specification requirements as well as advises and assists local officials on local engineering projects. The Railroad Coordinator is also responsible for providing engineering expertise regarding responsibilities to contractors, the department, local governments, consultants, and utility companies.
This position does require the ability to travel on an independent basis, including occassional statewide travel.
Wisconsin residency is required for project positions.
These project/permanent positions have been authorized for a period of 24 months (May 2024) and could be considered for renewal for an additional 24 months. Project/permanent positions are eligible for all benefits (including paid time off) as well as civil service status. After successful completion of the 12 month probationary period (if applicable), employees in these positions will attain permanent status and will be eligible to transfer to other permanent positions similar to other permanent employees in state service. This allows employees to be considered for other similar positions when the project position approaches its expiration date of 24 or 48 months.
