Job Summary
This position is located in the District Department of Transportation (DDOT), Office of the Director. This position will perform high-level analysis and research on DDOT policy, projects, and programs executed agency-wide (Operations, Project Delivery, and Performance) as assigned by the Chief of Staff. The incumbent will provide recommendations to resolve complex problems and will be empowered to work with agency staff at all levels to implement solutions. The Special Assistant must work collaboratively with the Chief of Staff and Deputy Chief of Staff to support the Director and Deputy Director in fulfilling DDOT’s mission and in doing so will work with information that is confidential or sensitive in nature.
Duties and Responsibilities
The incumbent serves as a trusted advisor to the Chief of Staff regarding the planning and direction of major projects and studies that affect functioning administrations and divisions within the agency. Working collaboratively with multiple external and internal stakeholders, the Special Assistant will be responsible for follow through on major and significant tasks or projects impacting service delivery and public engagement; this includes identifying, analyzing, and investigating critical situations and conducting organized presentations with recommendations and resolutions. The individual will serve as a project manager as necessary and will also assist management in writing and reviewing standard operating procedures.
The incumbent will meet with the Chief of Staff and other leadership member team members on a consistent basis to settle matters involving significant or controversial issues regarding the agency; as such, the incumbent will be responsible for written reports that will apply substantial knowledge of the agency’s operating programs and services to be shown to civic and business leaders and organizations.
Qualifications and Education
Applicant must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the grade 12 level, or its non-District equivalent, gained from the public or private sector. Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position has equipped the person with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, examples of specialized experience may include: analysis, investigative work preparation of reports, community facilitation presentations, or similar work experience
Licenses and Certifications
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record.

Work is primarily conducted in an office setting.

Position Designation: The position has been deemed security-sensitive, pursuant to section 410 of Chapter 4 of the D.C. Personnel Regulations. Accordingly, the incumbent will be subject to pre-employment checks (criminal background, and traffic records, if applicable) as a condition of employment, and will be subject to periodic criminal background checks, and traffic records for the duration of your tenure.
Emergency Designation: This position is classified as an essential/emergency position under the provisions of the District Personnel Manual Chapter 12. As such, the incumbent is required to serve in emergency situations to perform critical duties, i.e., snow removal, debris removal, transportation, shelter operations, food distribution, and communications. These duties may be performed when the government is closed or when most employees are dismissed early. Incumbent may be required to work weekends, evenings, and in on-call situations.
