The Idaho Transportation Department is looking to fill key Engineering position in Idaho. The incumbent will be responsible for all aspects of the design and construction of highway projects, from inception to final completion.

Idaho Transportation Departments Engineering positions are part of the Technical Engineering Services Lead (TESL) Horizontal Career Path. Through on-the-job training, classroom training, achievement of team goals and agency goals, there will be opportunity to progress through the four step program. After successful completion of each step, wages may increase as outlined below:
Engineer Intern – starting wage: $27.00
Associate Engineer – starting wage: $30.00
Staff Engineer – starting wage: $33.92 – $36.57
Staff Engineer 1 – starting wage: $36.57
Technical Engineer Services Leader – completion wage: $40.17
Technical Engineering Services Lead (TESL) engineers are considered fully competent professional engineers, capable of performing all the conventional aspects of engineering of the functional areas of responsibility of the discipline involved. Candidates will be expected to independently evaluate, select, and adapt situations, and modify techniques, procedures, and criteria to solve problems encountered.
- Example of Duties
Plan, schedule, conduct, or coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work, as part of a major project or a total project of moderate scope. - Perform work that involves conventional engineering practice but may include a variety of complex features, such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements.
- Requires a broad knowledge of precedents of the engineering discipline.
- May supervise professional staff and/or a large number of technical staff.
Minimum Qualification for Engineer Intern level:
Candidates must meet one of the following criteria within 6 months of employment offer:
- (One of the three bulleted criteria below must be completed before the start of employment)
Certification by the Idaho Board of Professional Engineers as an Engineer-In-Training;
OR - Certification as an EIT from another jurisdiction that included graduation from a four-year engineering curriculum accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET);
- OR graduation from a four-year engineering curriculum accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET) PLUS verification that the candidate has passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Examination.
Valid driver’s license is required for this position.
Minimum Qualification for Staff Engineer level:
- Licensure: Licensed in Idaho as a Professional Engineer (PE); or eligible for comity licensure by the Idaho Board of Professional Engineers in accordance with Idaho Code, Title 54, Chapter 12;
- Valid driver’s license.
- Experience: analyzing, interpreting and applying federal, state and local laws when applying professional engineering principles and practices; writing technical engineering reports; evaluating, selecting and adapting standard engineering plans, specifications and standards in completing projects; coordinating field work and inspecting projects or facilities for compliance with standards.
