ITD is hiring a Pilot – Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Coordinator located in Boise at the Aeronautics Division. If you would like to be considered for this opening, you must apply under this announcement. Previous application and scores will not be used.
Example of Duties:
Pilot-Flying:Flies state officials and employees to in-state and out-of-state locations in multi-engine and single engine aircraft.
Maintains single-engine and multi-engine qualification in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration 14 CFR Part 91 requirements, elements of Part 135 requirements and ITD Division of Aeronautics’ training program specifications.
Trains, qualifies, and maintains flying qualifications in Idaho backcountry with operations at remote, challenging, grass/dirt airfields.
UAS Coordinator:
Develop and Maintain ITD UAS Training Program:
Build training and certification programs for ITD employees to operate UASs in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration 14 CFR Part 107 requirements
Develop best practices program for ITD employees
Manage and execute UAS missions supporting ITD and state agencies:
Execute UAS operations for ITD and other state agency requested missions using a variety of UAS platforms and sensors.
Process mission data for ITD and other state agencies for dissemination using appropriate software systems.
Oversee ITD UAS procurement process:
Identify appropriate specifications and UAS platforms for ITD headquarters and district procurement.
Minimum Qualifications:
Certifications:FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate with rating as airplane single and multi-engine, land and instrument
Current class II Medical
Flight Instructor
Experience:2500 hours total pilot time including; 750 hours pilot-in-command time of multi-engine fixed-wing aircraft with recent experience in light twin-engine aircraft (other than center line thrust) under Visibility Flight Rules (VFR) and Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) conditions.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS100 hours turbine time
Airline Transport Pilot Certificate
Mountain Flying Experience
Experience with small scale drones, sensors and sensor data processing
Proven track record in presenting and writing on aviation topics, a thorough understanding of aircraft performance, mountain flying, density altitude, aviation weather, pilot decision making and accident analysis.
Ability to manage multiple stakeholder relationships
Demonstrated strong project management skills
Strong community outreach-orientation presence
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The incumbent in this position flies approximately 50% of the time and spends 50% coordinating UAS operations and training programs. Incumbent will, on a rotating basis, be required to remain available via cell phone for search and rescue missions. A competency flight check, by the Flight Operations Director may be required prior to hire.
