ITD has an opening for an Engineer Manager I in our Bridge Section. This position is located at our Headquarters location in Boise, ID. This position will plan, organize, and review the performance of professional and/or technical staff performing bridge inspection and engineering work; perform professional engineering and related administrative work involving the research, design, construction, and related activities to the bridge inspection and engineering discipline; perform related work.
Example of Duties:
Plans, organizes, and directs detailed bridge inspection, load rating, and engineering work involving state and local bridges in Idaho
Interviews and hires staff, assigns work, and evaluates performance
Conducts professional engineering work involving conventional practices, but may also involve a variety of complex features such as: conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult project coordination requirements
Work requires a broad knowledge of bridge engineering
This position will serve the program manager as defined in the 23 Code of Federal Regulations 650 as defined in Subpart 650.307(g) and Section 650.507(g).
This position is part of the management team of the HQ Bridge Section
Minimum Qualifications:
Licensure: Licensed in Idaho as a Professional Engineer (PE); or be eligible for comity licensure by the Idaho Board of Professional Engineers in accordance with Idaho Code, Title 54, Chapter 12;
AND Valid driver’s license.
Good knowledge of: State and local government operations pertaining to a specific engineering discipline.
Level I knowledge of: Management practices.
Experience: Supervising staff; interpreting and applying federal, state, and local laws pertaining to a specific engineering discipline;
Evaluating engineering projects and making decisions relative to their merit;
Writing engineering reports and correspondence;
Reviewing and critiquing engineering analyses;
Making oral presentations to groups relative to the merits of engineering applications.
Certifications:Completed an FHWA-approved comprehensive bridge inspection training course or the ability to complete the course within 6 months.
Completed an FHWA-approved comprehensive tunnel inspection training course or the ability to complete the course within 6 months.
Completed a cumulative total of 18 hours of FHWA-approved bridge inspection refresher training over each 60 month period if the comprehensive bridge inspection training course was complete over 5 years ago.
Desirable Qualifications: At least three years of experience in bridge design and/or bridge evaluation after professional licensure.
Evaluating bridge inspections, load ratings, and engineering projects and making decisions relative to their merit;
Good working knowledge of the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specification, AASHTO Manual for Bridge Evaluation, and National Bridge Inspection Standards.
Familiar with AASHTO BrM software, NBI bridge items and the ability to discern the seriousness of bridge deterioration to adequately assess bridge condition
Experience load rating bridges of current conditions in accordance with the AASHTO Manual for Bridge Evaluation.
Experience supporting bridge construction
Good working knowledge of the AASHTO Manual for Bridge Evaluation.
Experience scoping, scheduling, and budgeting projects
