You will work with engineers, field staff, and local public agencies to identify and seek solutions to operational, maintenance and safety issues on the primary road system. Transportation Engineer Specialist (TES) Position Responsibilities:
Serves as a lead transportation engineer for primary highways in District 3. This involves working closely with district staff, maintenance, central office staff, cities, and counties. Main duties include:Development and design of projects that are designed by the district. This includes developing the project scopes, preliminary and final plans. Typical project types include pavement resurfacing, restoration, and rehabilitation (3R) and pavement maintenance. Occasionally other project types like safety, emergency repairs, erosion, fencing and other miscellaneous projects will need to be developed.
Serves as district lead on projects being developed by central offices (Bridge or Design), Cities, Counties or consultants. Includes concept and plan reviews, field reviews, detour agreements, preconstruction agreements, coordination with local public agencies, public involvement and review of traffic control and staging.
Reviews operational, maintenance, drainage, and safety concerns.
Licenses:A valid Driver’s License must be possessed and maintained
Licensure by the Iowa Board of Engineering and Examiners as a Professional Engineer. This licensure must be valid and in good standing at the time of hire and be maintained for employment. Please refer to the minimum qualifications below.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
1) All of the following (a and b):
a. Licensure as a professional engineer; and
b. Two years of full-time professional work experience in transportation engineering or civil engineering.
2) All of the following (a, b, and c):a. Licensure as a professional engineer; and
b. One year of full-time professional work experience in transportation engineering or civil engineering; and
c. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree in chemical, civil, construction, environmental, materials, structural, or transportation engineering; engineering management; or a field closely related to transportation engineering.
3) Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes one year of full-time work as a Transportation Engineer.

Additional Qualification Requirements
Prior to appointment, applicants must possess active licensure as a professional engineer by the Iowa Engineering & Land Surveying Examining Board.
