Team Leader (Transportation Engineer Manager I)

ANNUALLY: $78,919.00 – $127,473.00

Nature of work: The Team Leader will be responsible for managing, supervising,  directing, reviewing submittals, and administering work for in-house design groups and consultant engineers for the design and preparation of highway construction plans, right-of-way plats, utility relocations, cost estimates, specifications, and other related contract documents for transportation projects and district special projects, which involve compressed work schedules and a high level of complexity.  Specific duties include but are not limited to, the preparation of cost estimates, developing and maintaining design schedules, and ensuring that the design specifications, plans, and standards are in compliance with the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and SHA policies.  This position is also responsible for coordinating and/or scheduling meetings with internal and external agencies, federal and local government officials, municipalities, businesses, towns, cities, community groups, and the general public regarding projects affecting their communities. The duties of this position are divided into several categories, including project development, supervision/personnel management, consultant management, and internal/external customer service.

Qualifications:
Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Seven (7) years of experience in professional engineering.

Selective Qualification: Three and a half (3 ½) years of the experience must involve managing the development of highway design projects.

The ideal candidate should possess the following:

  • Self-motivated and dependable
  • Works independently with minimal oversight
  • Ability of scoping projects and managing design schedules and budgets for multiple projects
  • Experience in preparing financial forecasts
  • Proficient in MS Office programs
  • Ability to analyze processes and implement improvements
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability of overseeing subordinate staff and consultant engineers, acting as a design team leader
