This position may be eligible to work a hybrid schedule and telework up to 3 days per week. The incumbent will be required to make a telework arrangement with their supervisor.

Our Senior Engineer (Traffic) assists in the supervision of staff, and the delivery of essential work products for the District 7 Traffic Office. The position provides engineering expertise to internal and external clients along with the delivery of engineering plans and documentation to ensure compliance with MnDOT standards and policies. Additional responsibilities include:

·       Represents the District Traffic Office as a team member on assigned highway improvement projects, from concept through construction phases, so that temporary traffic controls, pavement markings, signs, traffic signals, lighting systems, and intelligent transportation systems are correctly designed and deployed.

·       Leads the analysis, design and operation of the District’s traffic signal systems, roadway lighting systems and Intelligent Transportation Systems.  Including, but not limited to the completion of traffic signal warrant analyses; signal timing; and signal coordination plans.

Here are the minimum qualifications:

  • Licensure as a professional Civil Engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience, and Interior Design (AELSLAGID). (If obtaining licensure through Comity, a temporary permit from AELSLAGID must be provided to MnDOT HR prior to starting employment.)

In addition to the preceding minimum qualifications, you will be assessed on the following if interviewed:

  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively with the public, businesses, elected officials and other governmental organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate clearly and concisely sufficient to give direction, facilitate meetings, make public presentations, and answer project specific and policy questions.
