Geotechnical Section Manager
Up to $155,639/annually

As the Geotechnical Section Manager, provide managerial and technical direction to the department’s Geotechnical Engineering Section, including Grading and Base, Foundations, Aggregate and Geology. The position also provides direction to the Soils and Materials Engineers in the eight construction districts. This position ensures all soils, foundations and aggregate investigations, subsequent designs and recommendations result in the most appropriate and economically practical transportation system for the public.
Occasional in-state travel to meetings and construction project sites is required. Occasional out-of-state travel is also required to attend regional and national conferences. Some travel may be overnight.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience, and Interior Design (AELSLAGID) or ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity AND five years of post-registration experience with three years at the Engineer Principal level.
(If obtaining licensure through reciprocity, a temporary permit from AELSLAGID must be provided to MnDOT HR prior to starting employment.)

· Leadership and Management: Demonstrated ability to enhance trust through transparency and accountability; demonstrated ability to lead and manage a variety of functions, such as research, program delivery and maintenance; and demonstrated ability to lead change and maintain a strong team environment.
· Technical Expertise: Experience with geology, hydrology, soils engineering, soil mechanics, methods of erosion control, and pavement design.
· Policymaking: Experience developing and implementing policies, rules, standards, and procedures.
· Human Relations: Experience supervising staff and establishing relationships with staff, stakeholders, and interest groups.
· Fiscal Management: Experience developing and managing budgets including the allocation of resources.
