Assistant Design Standards Engineer

$78,968 – $116,197/annually

This position will assist the Design Standards Engineer with directing significant department-wide projects related to traffic barriers, roadside safety, and design standards development for use on state improvement projects. You’ll be responsible for assisting in the creation, development, revision, monitoring, and interpretation, of design standards for the preparation of plans, for the construction of highways and other transportation modes. Other duties include: the review and publishing of MnDOT’s manuals (Facility Design Guide, Standard Plans, and Standard Plates) and Technical Memoranda; provide solutions to problems encountered by design, maintenance and construction personnel within Mn/DOT, counties, cities, and consulting engineering companies; research activities including literature searches on subjects related to highway design, assisting districts/division on monitoring performance of field experiments; assist in evaluating the crashworthiness of barriers and other traffic control devices.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Employee must be licensed as a professional Civil Engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience and Interior Design or be able to obtain licensure through commodity.

AND experience in:

  • Experience preparing and reviewing final design documents.
  • Experience interpreting national design policies related to highway safety, roadway capacity, and environmental concerns.
  • Experience with MicroStation products to review design plans and create plans.
  • Experience communicating technical data to all audiences regarding complex design standards, and other technical correspondences.
