The Challenge
We are looking for an entry-level engineer to join our Greenville Construction Engineering team as an Assistant Resident Engineer.
In this role, you will:
- Assist our Resident Engineer in the day-to-day contract administration of major and minor transportation projects done by private contractors.
- Supervise junior technicians.
- Perform project field inspections.
- Prepare monthly/final pay estimate.
- Create, review, and evaluate supplemental agreements and claims.
- Ensure compliance with NCDOT and external environmental agency erosion control and permit requirements.
- Resolve constructability issues.
- Serve as the NCDOT project representative for formal and informal meetings with contractors, utilities, local officials, media, and the public.
What You Bring
- Experience reading/interpreting highway construction plans and contracts.
- Experience directing, assisting, or training employees.
- Experience administering contracts.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of Civil Engineering.
- Knowledge and understanding of the general concepts, practices, and theories used in construction inspection, or construction surveying.
- Communication skills to communicate verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner.
- Ability to make independent decisions using sound engineering judgment.
- Computer experience using laptops and tablets, and with software including SharePoint and HICAMS is preferred.
- You can apply NCDOT safety standards and programs to all operations.
- Fitness to perform moderate physical activity, such as walking, climbing, kneeling, and standing.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays, as required.
- Ability to safely drive a state vehicle.
- Safety toe shoes.
Notes
- We may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
- You may be exposed to hazards including construction equipment, high traffic volumes, and heights over water/traffic and will be expected to work outside in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in engineering; or
An equivalent combination of training and experience.
