SALARY: $65,876 – $115,283
The Challenge
We are looking for a Senior Engineer III to join our Hydraulics team.
In this role, you will:
- Support maintenance, State Transportation Improvement Projects (STIPs), and emergency hydraulic (H&H) studies for all 14 NCDOT Highway Divisions.
- Develop, scope, support, and review hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) studies for NCDOT transportation facilities.
- Perform encroachment reviews, emergency and non-emergency pipe replacements, drainage investigations and drainage designs.
- Perform or review advanced H&H modeling and design, hydraulic planning reports, risk assessments, final hydraulic designs, riverine hydraulic modeling, bridge and culvert hydraulic reports, stormwater management plans, and floodplain compliance reports.
- Prepare H&H storm response and recovery packages; attend and participate in field scoping meetings and provide permitting assistance.
- Prepare guidance and support of drainage policy.
- Participate in research and development.
- Provide training.
What You Bring
- Knowledge of hydrologic and hydraulic design practices and riverine modeling relating to transportation facility.
- Knowledge of FEMA and stormwater regulations, FHWA and AASHTO guidance relating to hydraulic design.
- Computer skills using applications, including advanced Hydraulics modelling software, web-based GIS applications, Microsoft Office, MicroStation, PDF viewers, and editors.
- Experience applying engineering principles to complex design situations and making sound recommendations and decisions using guidelines, performance metrics, and sound engineering judgement.
- Experience conducting activities to meet established goals while ensuring project quality and compliance.
- Solid verbal and written communication skills working with varied audiences and can work well within a group setting with limited supervision.
- Considerable knowledge and understanding of concepts, practices, and theories used in hydrology and hydraulics and the ability to use it in practice.
- Ability to provide consultation to clients or others related to drainage studies and complex hydraulic design situations.
- Ability to develop/create informational products, manage hydraulic design projects, plan, develop, and implement short-term strategies.
Notes
Occasional overnight travel is required.
Field work may require climbing steep terrain, thick undergrowth, working around open water, near traffic, and in bad weather conditions.
We may require registration as a professional engineer with the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, and
4+ years of relevant experience; or
An equivalent combination of education and experience.
