The New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) is a state agency responsible for maintaining the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway – two of the busiest toll roads in the United States. The NJTA is dedicated to the safe and efficient movement of people and goods along their toll roads. Everyday, the Authority’s highways provide the safest, quickest, and most convenient routes for hundreds of commuters, truckers, and recreational travelers.

The NJTA is seeking applications for a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at it’s Woodbridge, NJ headquarters building. The CFO will direct and oversee all financial activities of the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, including preparation of current financial reports, summaries, and forecasts for future business growth and general economic outlook.

Responsibilities in this job will include:

1.       Direct the preparation of all financial reports, including Statement of Net Position, Statements of Revenues, Expenses and Changes in Net Position, reports to shareholders, monthly financial reports to the Authority Commissioners, tax returns, and reports for government regulatory agencies.

2.       Oversee accounting departments, budget preparation, and audit functions. Meet regularly with department heads to keep informed and to offer direction.

3.       Review reports to analyze projections of revenue against actual figures and budgeted expenses against final totals. Suggest methods of improving the planning process as appropriate.

4.       Analyze company operations to pinpoint opportunities and areas that need to be reorganized, down-sized, or eliminated.

5.       Confer with Executive Director and executive staff to coordinate and prioritize planning.

6.       Study long-range economic trends and projects company prospects for future growth in overall sales and market share, opportunities for acquisitions or expansion into new product areas. Estimate requirements for capital, land, buildings, and an increase in the work force.

7.       Supervise investment of funds; work with banks and/or investment bankers to raise additional capital as required for expansion.

The CFO will be responsible establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with all employees of the Authority; representing the Authority in a positive, professional, and confidential manner in all dealings with external agencies, contractors, and all other individuals; and maintaining professional demeanor even in high stress emergency and weather situations.

The minimum qualifications of the CFO position are:

  • Undergraduate degree in business administration, accounting, or finance.
  • C.P.A. designation and/or Master degree in Business related field preferred.
  • Eight (8) to ten (10) years of experience in financial management with increasing responsibilities for multi-faceted direction and planning.
  • Knowledge of database and accounting computer application systems to supply the most accurate financial information.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills.

*This position requires residence in the state of New Jersey or relocation to the state of New Jersey within a year of start, in accordance with the NJ First Act.
