Why does the job exist?
The Engineer Technician III is an Office Manager position. The purpose of this position is to perform administrative and office management functions. The position is responsible for maintaining and updating project files and manuals. This position will prepare cost estimates, change orders, and provide support and assistance to the Project Manager and field technicians.
How does it get done?
The Engineer Technician III will maintain accurate and complete project related documentation. Verify, implement, and responsiveness of the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) Business Plan with the project crew. Monitor the engineer technician¿s documentation activities and keep the Project Manager and crew members up to date with Department¿s administrative directives, polices, and procedures. The Engineer Technician III will maintain assigned department equipment.

Contractors, Sub-Contractors, Engineer Technicians, Audit groups, and the Project Manager.
The ideal candidate will have experience in the following:
– Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, SHARE Financial System, Business to Government Now web portal, Labor Compliance Software tracker web portal, American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials Site Manager software;
– Communication skills through written correspondence, in person, and through telephone;
– Office Manager or audit experience in materials testing;
– Construction inspection, highway construction, highway maintenance, surveying, draft, and highway design experience; and
– Ability to read plans/contracts, and equipment usage.

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License. Employment requires successful completion of post offer pre-employment physical exam and is conditional pending results. Work is performed primarily in the field in varying weather conditions: hot or cold, humidity, wind, rain and snow. Exposure to sunlight, dust, pollen, chemicals, rough/rugged terrain, insects and reptiles, noxious plants and infected trash; exposure to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, toxic fumes/chemicals and/or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals and/or asphalt and petroleum products; exposure to temperatures up to 150 degrees around oil distributor operations; high speed/high volume traffic and loud noises; subject to falls and bruises, considerable physical strain; standing for extended periods of time doing traffic control or walking long distances for litter control; hand dexterity required for some duties; numerous specific vision abilities to include: close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus; some climbing, reaching, kneeling and crawling to perform job duties; ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Work may also be performed in an office setting with exposure to visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage to include working with faxes, copiers and printers. May be required to work irregular hours and is subject to call out for weather, accidents and/or emergencies on short notice; frequent temporary assignments that require travel and extended overnight stays to include weekends, holidays, and overtime are required. Willingness to accept change of geographical assignments; interaction with the public.
