Why does the job exist?
This position supports the Revenue and Planning Division by studying how society distributes resources. The position conducts research, collects and analyzes data, monitors economic trends, and develops forecasts on transportation related issues. This position will assess economic conditions in the Unites States and abroad to estimate the effect of specific changes in legislation and public policy.
How does it get done?
Daily management and coordination of the Economist and Data Analytic Bureau. Oversee tax policy analysis, revenue tracking and revenue estimates, legislative analysis and policy recommendations, and participates in group consensus process that includes legislative and executive branch agencies, attend and present revenue and tax information to legislative committees, State Transportation Commission meetings and hearings. Responsible for the submission of monthly and annual federal reports.

New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) internal and external customers.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have the following:
* Statewide-Human Resources-Accounting-Reporting (SHARE) Financial experience;
* Experience working with revenue forecasting;
* Experience using spreadsheet software, databases programs and publishing programs;
* Experience with Legislative Impact Response Statements;
* Ability to research, analyze large datasets and report results; and
* Strong writing and communication skills.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Statistics or Business Administration and four (4) years of experience in database manipulation, statistical analysis or spreadsheet and/or statistical software usage. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver’s License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
State of New Mexico employees may be impacted by the Public Health Order dated December 19, 2022, which requires facilities licensed or certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (“CMS”), including all hospital types, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, hospice facilities and rehabilitation facilities, as well as assisted living facilities and adult day care settings, to adhere to all COVID-related requirements prescribed by CMS, including, but not limited to masking and staff vaccination.
Work is performed primarily in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer to include working with computers, faxes, copiers, printers and phone usage. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. Travel throughout the state and occasional out of state may be required.
