Why does the job exist?
The position assists the Project Development Engineer (PDE) with better performance based results, as defined in the current New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) / Federal Highway Administration Stewardship and Oversight Agreement.
How does it get done?
The position assists in production of quality plans, on schedule, within budget, and per design criteria established by state and federal guidelines. Other duties include contract administration, as directed by the PDE, pertaining to negotiated engineering contracts, as well as maintaining contact with NMDOT support personnel during construction of assigned projects.
Who are the customers?
NMDOT North Region Design, District 4 (Las Vegas), and District 5 (Santa Fe).
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have experience in the following:
* Providing project designs that meet current highway and bridge design standards.
* Preparation of P6 project schedules for all assigned projects.
* Management of consultant tasks to ensure projects are completed on-time and on-budget.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor of Science Degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant engineering discipline with licensure and four (4) years of engineering experience. Must be licensed by the NMBLPEPS as a Licensed Professional Engineer in good standing within six (6) months of hire.

Employment Requirements
Must maintain and possess a current New Mexico Driver’s License.
Working Conditions
State of New Mexico employees may be impacted by the Public Health Order dated December 19, 2022, which requires facilities licensed or certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (“CMS”), including all hospital types, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, hospice facilities and rehabilitation facilities, as well as assisted living facilities and adult day care settings, to adhere to all COVID-related requirements prescribed by CMS, including, but not limited to masking and staff vaccination.
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Field work is also required in varying weather conditions-hot or cold, humidity, wind, rain, and snow; exposure to sunlight, dust, concrete powder, and environmental allergens; exposure to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places, toxic fumes/chemicals and/or airborne particles; high volume traffic; insects and reptiles, loud noises, confined spaces, and stressful situations; interaction with public, local, county, school, and city officials by phone and in person; work is performed in the field, monthly assignments that require travel and extended overnight stays away from post of duty along with extended hours and occasional travel. Sitting/Standing, bending, squatting, climbing, reaching, kneeling, and crawling for extended periods of time may be required. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
