Why does the job exist?
This position assists a survey support unit as a team leader in all work responsibilities needed to obtain location, right of way and property boundary survey data necessary for the planning, design development, right of way acquisition/monumentation and construction of highway improvement projects.
How does it get done?
Understanding the scope of work and deciding what survey methodology and approach is best suitable for various types of observations and field conditions.
Who are the customers?
New Mexico Department of Transportation project staff and the traveling public.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have:
* Current certification as a Survey Intern in the State of New Mexico as per the New Mexico Engineering and Surveying Practice Act, Chapter 61, Article 23 NMSA, Sections 1 through 32.
* Experience as a Certified Surveyor Intern, using principles and methods of a variety of types such as: route surveys, location surveys, photo control surveys, geodetic control surveys, topographic survey, as-built surveys, metes and bounds surveys, right of way surveys, easement surveys, and GPS surveys.
* Experience and use with; Trimble GPS surveying instruments; Trimble data controllers; Trimble Business Center; and Autodesk/AutoCAD Civil 3D.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor of Science Degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant Surveying/Geomatics discipline or a State of New Mexico Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers and Professional Surveyors (NMBLPEPS) approved related Bachelor of Science Degree with required credits in Surveying/Geomatics. Must be qualified to sit for the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Surveying Exam.
Employment Requirements
Employment requires successful completion of post offer pre-employment physical exam and is conditional pending results.
Working Conditions
Extensive statewide overnight travel, exposure to construction equipment, traffic, heights, heavy lifting, insects, pollen, rough terrain and inclement weather conditions.
