Why does the job exist?
This position will serve as an Assistant District Engineer for the Engineering Support Section of District Three. The incumbent will coordinate and manage the administration and oversight of the Traffic Section, Bridge Inspection, Surveying, Design, and Engineering Technical Support Departments. The incumbent is responsible for timely delivery of engineering plans and management of technical areas

How does it get done?
Incumbent will manage the State Transportation Improvement Program, through planning the long- and short-term planning of Rural Transportation Planning Organizations, and the District’s Traffic operations, Bridge program, Engineering and technical staff in the Design of roadway and bridge projects.

Who are the customers?
Internal New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) employees, Tribal Entities, Governmental agencies, and other entities.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have experience in:

* Managing and overseeing employees.
* Federal and State funding processes.
* Civil Engineering processes.
* Budget.
* Prioritizing projects.

Minimum Qualification
Bachelor of Science Degree in a relevant Engineering discipline, licensure in accordance with the Engineering and Surveying Practice Act and twelve (12) years as an Engineer with experience in a management function.

No substitutions. Must possess required licensure, certification or registration and required number of years of experience

Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License. Business reference check and Driver’s License verification are required, and employment is conditional pending results. Registration as a Professional Engineer by the New Mexico Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers and Professional Surveyors by date of hire.

Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office and outdoor environment with daily contact with the public and employees. Frequent/extended periods of travel. Overnight travel is required.
