Salary Range: $4,306 – $6,680
The ODOT Graduate Program is designed to help recent college graduates transition from student to full-time professional. For up to 24 months, participants are provided rotational assignments within ODOT engineering disciplines. They are recognized as full-time, permanent employees, receiving a salary, a full benefits package and mentorship from a registered professional engineer (PE). This can provide up to two years’ qualifying time toward obtaining PE licensure. Following successful completion of the 24-month program, participants will transition into a full-time regular position in the discipline and crew of original hire. The program is open to all qualified applicants including current, qualified ODOT employees.
We are recruiting for a program candidate in La Grande, OR to join our Region 5 Technical Center, Traffic and Roadway teams. This important work will require the incumbent to train on-the-job which may include the following duties:
· Work with other technical disciplines, construction staff, local, state and federal agencies, maintenance personnel, engineering consultants and project delivery staff to develop solutions to safety and operational issues encountered on our state highway system.
· Use advanced 3D modeling and design software to help prepare concept and contract plan details.
· Assist with projects such as pavement preservation, road rehabilitation or widening, intersection improvements, multi-use pathways and ADA additions.
· Assist in the design of permanent and temporary traffic control device installations.
· Conduct traffic safety investigations of high-crash locations.
· Recommend traffic control measures to improve safety, operations, and reliability.
· This position is part of the Graduate Participant Program and will include a total of three to four rotations working with other technical disciplines within the Region.

A day in the life:
· You will embark on an 18 to 24 month rotational program of on-the-job training, and will work with a mentor for the duration of the program. The workload will be customized to meet your needs as well as the unique needs of the hiring region or technical center.
· Rotations will include core training in safety, work culture and on technical topics. You will complete a minimum of three rotations through the design, construction and/or maintenance disciplines. Specific areas may include survey, construction, roadway, bridge, traffic, hydraulics or geo-environmental.
· Position requires both office work and outdoor work. Outdoor work may be necessary in inclement weather and under hazardous conditions. Position requires working long hours, nights and weekends outdoors during construction season. Employee is expected to be able to travel region-wide when necessary. Statewide travel may be required for training.

What we need:
· Either a bachelor’s degree in civil or transportation-related engineering (or degree expected by June 2023) OR the completion and passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam. Please Note: Applications will be considered from those who have graduated with an applicable degree or who have completed and received a passing score on the FE exam, within the past two years.
· Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.
