In this role, you will provide technical expertise in all appropriate traffic engineering studies, evaluation elements, special provisions, specifications and cost estimates, access management, multimodal engineering and QA/QC engineering. A day in the life:

·       Provide program management and technical leadership for Region 1 Planning studies, traffic designs and specification and traffic analysis or modeling.

·       Apply judgment and evaluate existing traffic engineering problems and present unique or innovative solutions.

·       Direct a traffic analysis team consisting of transportation analysts and perform duties of a team leader.

·       Apply judgment and expert opinions and direct the technical traffic engineering analysis on Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) and Job and Transportation Act (JTA) projects required by the Region’s project development process, and assign work and review it for technical accuracy and application.

·       Apply judgment and expert opinions and determine analytical procedures and render conclusions, which will control the design of specific highway improvement projects.

·       Provide expert level technical expertise and leadership in traffic engineering for diverse groups with respect to traffic quality design, analysis, modelling and simulations for planning and design studies.

·       Approve or recommend the analysis and studies which directly impact driver safety and operations.

·       Utilize expert traffic engineering judgement in the development, evaluation and installation of unique or innovative traffic control features for planning studies, project design or construction.

·       Oversee professional engineers responsible for QA/QC engineering of projects, access management and multimodal engineering sub-disciplines within Traffic Design Unit.

·       Requires the ability to adapt the knowledge and experience of a number of engineering disciplines to resolve unique and unusual design problems. Provide training for new employees and assist in performance appraisals and work improvement plans.

·       Hybrid work option available. Occasional overnight travel may be required. Occasional fieldwork can involve exposure to heavy traffic, sometimes at night.

What we need:

A valid Professional Engineer’s (PE) license in Civil, Structural, or Transportation-related engineering and three (3) years of journey level professional engineer experience.

NOTE: If registered in another state, successful applicants will be required to obtain comity within six months of hire.

Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.
