Salary Range: $4,750 – $7,366

The role:  

Our Statewide Project Delivery Branch is recruiting for a senior inspector! In this role, you will lead the Milwaukie Materials Inspection Office through the day-to-day operations of the crew including performing and scheduling shop and field inspections, performing and scheduling nondestructive testing and evaluation as well as training crewmembers in inspection techniques and code interpretation. You will be part of a collaborative team of six inspectors located in Milwaukie and Springfield that provide fabricated product inspection for local agency and ODOT jobs located throughout the state. A day in the life:

Guide the Milwaukie materials inspection office in day-to-day operations and crew assignments.
Schedule and coordinate inspection and related activities.
Perform inspection activities of structural steel and concrete members as well as other structural materials at plants.
Collect and organize material submittals and write inspection reports.
Train new, temporary or seasonal employees to perform steel, concrete and general inspections and testing.
Respond to questions from field personnel regarding inspections and tests performed by the Milwaukie Inspection Crew.
Monitor expenses for the Milwaukie Inspection Crew.
Review contract plans and special provisions to determine inspection requirements, job specifications and plan accuracy
Provide technical support to concrete, structural steel, and general inspectors.
Perform miscellaneous duties including scheduling vehicle maintenance and repair and adjusting, cleaning, repairing, and maintaining testing equipment.
Travel daily to fabrication plants in the Portland metro area and statewide.
Work in pre-stressed concrete plants, steel fabrication plants, precast concrete fabrication plants and wood treatment plants with exposure to noise, dust, fumes, heavy equipment, overhead hazards and walking hazards.
Work hours may vary and occasional travel involving overnight stays is required.
Work in an office environment 40% of the time.

What we need:

American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.


Five years of civil or transportation-related engineering or surveying experience. One year of this experience must have been independently planning and completing assignments.


A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, surveying or transportation-related engineering and two years of civil or transportation-related engineering or surveying experience.


An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

Note: The following certifications are required within six months of hire:

·         ASNT Level 2 certification in visual testing, dye penetrant testing, magnetic particle testing and ultrasonic testing.

·         Concrete Quality Control Technician (QCT) certification.

·         Demonstrated lead worker skills or training

·         General knowledge of methods and techniques of technical report writing and correspondence.
