The role:  

We are recruiting for a Computer Aided Drafting & Design (CADD) specialist to join our team in Salem! In this role, you will provide 2D and 3D CAD drafting assistance with discipline specific standards for the sub disciplines within Geology/Geotechnical Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering and Environmental Sections.  Apply today!

A day in the life:

  • Update drawings to current agency CAD standards used in developing contract plans and standards guidance and training materials.
  • Create and maintain discipline specific drawings for cell libraries, standard drawings, standard details, example plan sheets, plus drawing templates, cache drawings and seed drawings.
  • Determine details, cross sections, plans and views and the organizational layout for each assignment.
  • Provide drafting assistance (example drawings, figures and tables) for the development of the CAD Standards Manual and discipline specific design manuals.
  • Develop details based on sketches, notes and information supplied by designers or supervisors.
  • Provide project delivery drafting, quality control and quality assurance assistance for transportation projects.
  • Convert current 2D drawings to 3D drawings as part of the agency-wide 3D digital plans initiative.
  • Review work for design details based on experience working with engineers and design staff.
  • Participate on technical groups and communicate with project stakeholders.
  • Conduct quality assurance/quality control review so project plans.
  • Assist in developing and delivering training materials and topics.
  • Remote work options available – work in an office environment.

What we need:

Four years of para-professional engineering or surveying experience. One year of this experience must have been working independently or as a senior member of a team or work group.


An associate’s degree in engineering technology or surveying from a recognized community college or technical school of engineering and two and one-half years of engineering or surveying experience. One year of this experience must have been working independently or as a senior member of a team or work group.


A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, surveying, or transportation-related engineering and one year of civil engineering or surveying experience.


An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

  • Knowledge and experience using MicroStation CAD and OpenRoads designer software.
  • Knowledge and experience drafting and modeling in 3D.

  • Ability to successfully plan and organize workload.
