The role:  

As a resident engineer on our team, you will support our Americans with Disabilities Act Program (ADA) by providing professional engineering and project management expertise. You will direct all activities necessary in developing outsourced contracts for either designing or constructing or designing and constructing ADA/highway projects along with project contract administration of all delivery methods. This is a limited duration appointment that is expected to end on or before 6/30/2023. Limited duration appointments are benefits eligible and have a designated maximum length of service. This position has the potential to become permanent.

A day in the life:

  • Execute contracts, review project work and recommend project acceptance at the completion of the contract, including review and submittal of final project documentation.
  • Work with consultant to ensure contract deliverables are on time and designed within specifications.
  • Oversee the preparation of monthly contractor/consultant progress payment estimates for work performed each month and review estimates with contractors/consultants.
  • Analyze the cost and schedule impacts of changes and evaluate alternatives.
  • Assign, schedule, direct, review and accept the work of agency staff, consultants and contractors to ensure they are meeting contract requirements and other required methods, standards and policies.
  • Administer contracts in accordance with the contract plans and specifications.
  • Ensure each project minimizes impacts on the traveling public, adjacent properties and communities.
  • Identify problem areas and recommend adjustments to policies and procedures.
  • Represent management in the development of outsourcing contracts and lead consultant selection processes.
  • Work with agency staff to initiate, develop and manage the strategic program-level business and work plans for ADA projects on behalf of the Statewide ADA Program.
  • Work in a typical office environment with the option for remote work – may be required to attend in-person meetings.
  • Occasional statewide travel and work outdoors at project sites required – may need to walk on rough terrain and stoop or bend around structures or equipment and work 20 feet or move above ground/water.
  • Duties may involve exposure to hazards of traffic, construction equipment, all weather conditions.

What we need:

A valid professional engineer’s (PE) license in civil, structural, or transportation-related engineering and three (3) years of journey level professional engineer experience.

Note: If registered in another state, successful applicants will be required to obtain professional registration within six months of hire.

Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

  • Experience managing multiple transportation projects from preliminary design through construction.
  • Experience negotiating and administering complex contracts.
  • Multimodal transportation engineering experience.
