The role:
Apply today to join our team as an assistant bridge inspector & load rater! In this role, you will assist the region bridge inspector to inventory, inspect, evaluate and assess the condition state of all bridges, tunnels, culverts and sign support structures in the assigned area. You will also perform load rating support and produce a variety of reports.
This is a limited duration appointment that is expected to end on or before two years from date of hire. Limited duration appointments are benefits eligible and have a designated maximum length of service. This position has the potential to become permanent.

A day in the life:
- Perform load rating analyses using standard computer programs with oversight by the senior load rating engineer.
- Compile load rating reports.
- Schedule and perform in-service inspections for structures: bridges, tunnels, culverts and sign structures.
- Assess the condition of bridge elements and the urgency of any deficiencies.
- Report on bridges, minor structures and structural sign bridges and cantilevers.
- Perform on-site assessments of the physical condition of structures and complete reports of the findings.
- Compare load rating report findings for consistency with current bridge conditions.
- Develop special reports and review underwater inspection reports and incorporate findings into the overall condition assessment of the bridge.
- Work with bridge engineering data, generating electronic data and reports to prepare diagrams.
- Work with the bridge inventory coordinator to upload data into the Oregon Bridge Inventory.
- Work primarily in an office environment with hybrid work options available.
- Work outdoors 30% or more of the time – field work may involve working on and around heights, around and above bodies of water, confined spaces, high traffic volumes and noise in all weather conditions.

What we need:
Completion of and passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and one year of experience applying professional engineering theory, principles and methods.
Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

- Experience performing load rating analyses using standard computer programs.
- Experience compiling load rating reports.
- Experience performing bridge condition inspection or bridge construction inspection.
- Experience using specialized work access equipment such as an aerial lift, bucket truck, or under-bridge inspection truck.
