The role:

We are recruiting for an assistant resident engineer to assist the resident engineer in administering construction contracts.  Under the direction of the resident engineer, you will have immediate responsibility for the day to day interactions with construction contractors on construction projects, leading and supporting construction inspectors and verifying, generating and reviewing construction documentation. You will be responsible for making sound decisions on construction projects in the field and in the office that have immediate and real world effects.

A day in the life:

·         Provide input to the resident engineer on crew assignments and make adjustments independently.

·         Assist in coordinating highway project construction contract field administration.

·         Proactively anticipate and resolve project issues.

·         Review and recommend changes to plans and specifications.

·         Negotiate and draft change orders.

·         Communicate and attend regular meetings with construction contractors.

·         Support the resident engineer in the workforce planning and management, recruitment, retention and training of the crew.

·         Recommend acceptance or rejection of contract work per established standards and contract documents.

·         Prepare and recommend project budgets.

·         Establish and maintain professional relationships with consultants, contractors, the public and project staff.

·         Work is performed in both an office environment and in the field.

·         This position requires long working hours on a flexible schedule and occasionally being on call 24 hours/day, seven days/week – including holidays.

·         Field work involves frequent exposure to hazards of traffic and construction equipment.

What we need:

·         A valid professional engineer’s (PE) license in civil, structural, or transportation-related engineering.

Note: If registered in another state, successful applicants will be required to obtain professional registration in the state of Oregon within six months of hire.

·         Also, you will be required to use a vehicle to conduct business; you must possess and maintain a current, valid driver license and acceptable driving record.

·         Knowledge of contract administration procedures and processes.
