This position is the Portland Cement Concrete Mix Design Engineer for the South Dakota Department of Transportation. Designs and verifies portland cement concrete mixes. Ensures quality concrete mixes and materials are used in the states pavements and structures. Directs the work of technicians performing acceptance testing on portland cement concrete materials. Provides technical expertise in the portland cement concrete engineering specialty to other engineers, other agencies, and local governments. Conducts training courses for portland cement concrete certification courses. The incumbent will be directly involved with the day-to-day activities needed to maintain the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) accreditation for the Central Highway Construction Materials Laboratory. The incumbent will work both indoors and outdoors. Indoor work is accomplished in an office environment and in a highway construction materials laboratory. Outdoor duties are performed on highway construction projects. Limited overnight travel and some longer work days can be expected to complete work. Some out of state travel is required to attend conferences, meetings and training. Normal working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Only applicants with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field will be considered. Applicants graduating in Spring 2022 are encouraged to apply.
