The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials is currently hiring a Financial Support Specialist, a full-time position located in our Washington, DC office.

Nature of Position:

The Financial Support Specialist supports various critical financial functions within the organization. Under the supervision of the Director of Finance and Administration, the Financial Support Specialist is responsible for efficiently managing and reconciling the Finance and Administration division’s financial transactions.

The incumbent is responsible for facilitating prompt payment collection, assisting in reconciliation processes, generating financial reports, providing clerical support, and following up on payment-related inquiries from AASHTO’s members and vendors.

In carrying out the above responsibilities, the Financial Support Specialist:

  • Serves as a primary point of contact to facilitate timely and efficient payment collection from employees, customers and members. This includes communication as needed to resolve discrepancies and issues, such as duplicate payments, payments received without appropriate documentation, past due accounts, and addressing unidentified payments and ensuring they are appropriately categorized to the correct account and program.
  • Assists in reconciliation of monthly and quarterly financial transactions to ensure accuracy.
  • Maintain organized, accurate and up-to-date records of financial reports, and responsible for efficient distribution to program managers.
  • Maintains effective organization of budget documents, audit materials, and other vital records to streamline financial operations and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Provides support to the Director of Finance and Administration and team as priorities arise.

Position Requirements:

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in a similar role involving financial tracking, payment processing, reconciliation, and financial reporting. Experience in a non-profit organization or member association is desired, as well as familiarity with federal grant requirements and compliance. A bachelor’s degree in accounting, or a related field, is preferred, or an equivalent combination of at least 3 years of education and experience is required.

The candidate must have excellent demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with customers, team members, stakeholders, and external partners. The incumbent is oftentimes required to juggle multiple projects at one time and should be skilled in time management and task prioritization. The incumbent must have proficiency in NetSuite or a similar financial management system to perform accounting tasks, manage financial data, and generate reports. The incumbent must have a strong understanding of financial principles, practices, and procedures, including budget and financial analysis. The successful candidate should have meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in financial record-keeping, payment processing, and reconciliation tasks. The incumbent is expected to represent the team and association professionally, maintaining confidential and sensitive information.

Perks and Benefits:

This position would primarily report out of our Washington, DC office located in Metro Center. AASHTO offers employees hybrid work flexibilities and this role may be approved to work remotely up to 2-3 days per week.

The salary range for this position is $60,000 – 75,000.
