Transportation Supervising Engineer (Construction Engineering)

The State of Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT) is accepting applications for a Transportation Supervising Engineer (Construction Engineering) position in our Office of Construction, in the Claims and Litigation/Special Projects Section, at our Headquarters in Newington, Connecticut. The ideal candidate would have professional ambition, Leadership skills, self-motivation, considerable oral and written communication skills, and strong organizational skills.

Position Details: This position is full time, 40 hours per week and is in the P-4 (Engineering and Scientific) bargaining unit.

The Role: The Claim and Litigation responsibilities relate primarily to administration of construction claims brought against the Department by contractors.
Duties include:
Reviewing and making recommendations on contractor monetary claims;
Supervising engineers in the evaluation and analysis of contractor claims, assist District staff in the interpretation of contract specifications and dispute resolution, assist District staff in schedule analysis, obtain and assign consultants to perform schedule analysis, and the management of the financial needs of the unit; supervising consultant engineers engaged in the analysis and auditing of claims;
Coordinating and assigning task based consultant services;
Analyzing and making recommendations on design issues encountered during construction; and other duties which are common to both sections outlined below.
The Special Projects responsibilities relate to the administering and evaluation of pilot projects as it relates to new technology and software.
Duties include:
Reviewing and making recommendations;
Coordination with contractors, vendors and district construction projects;
Development of training tools and manuals;
Performing training to district staff and implementation of successful projects.
