The State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation is now accepting applications for a Facility Rail Operations Specialist (Transportation Rail Officer 2). The Transportation Rail Officer 2 position is part of the Office of Rail Operations team based in the Department of Transportation owned and operated, Component Change Out (CCO) complex located in New Haven, Connecticut.

Located in New Haven, CT
Job Duties:
The Transportation Rail Officer 2 position will assist in the development and renewal of contracts and agreements between the Department and other entities related to providing a safe and efficient transportation system at all rail stations and various support facilities in CT. This position will interact with contracted operator personnel as well as railroad, municipal and other Department, State and Federal officials.  Routine field inspection of assets and related records and documentation is required.  It will be necessary to review financial documentation such as invoices, budgets and capital/improvement project plans and specifications and CT Department of Administrative Services contracts and vendor proposals.  Various correspondence and report development is required in support of unit activities.

Other duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Assist the unit in the development and public release of Request for Proposal (RFP) packages for facility management services, retail and food service and other opportunities involving rail station/support facility assets.
Participate in capital project plan reviews and attend various, related meetings and site inspections during construction phases.
Review &/or prepare a variety of reports and other documents related to public transportation, contract services, productivity and issues related to rail funding.

About Us:
The Office of Rail, Station Operations and Maintenance unit is directly involved in the operational oversight of 50 railroad station facilities located throughout the state of Connecticut, including properties on the New Haven Line, Shore Line East and Hartford Line rail service corridors.  Many of these facilities operate 24 hours per day and offer public parking.  The New Haven Line is one of the busiest rail services in the United States carrying millions of passengers annually.

The Station Operations and Maintenance unit directly manages various operating agreements with Metro-North Railroad, AMTRAK, Transit America Services Inc, numerous municipal entities as well as private, facility management contractors.  The unit also assists the Department’s Office of Rail Operations in satisfying Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) requirements relative to facility state of good repair, asset management and other matters associated with acceptance and utilization of federal funding.
