The State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation (DOT), is now accepting applications for an exciting Transportation Engineer 2 position dedicated to our Safe Routes to School Program.

The Role: We are seeking a motivated candidate for this dynamic opportunity to enable and encourage children of all abilities to walk and bicycle to school; to make walking and bicycling to school safe and more appealing; and to facilitate the planning, development and implementation of projects that will improve safety, and reduce traffic, fuel consumption, and air pollution in the vicinity of schools. The position is located at the DOT Headquarters in Newington. This position reports directly to a Supervising Transportation Planner or other employee of higher grade within the Office of Strategic Planning & Projects.

Be required to have knowledge of the principles and practices involved in transportation engineering including highway design, construction methods and procedures, and traffic engineering, all with a focus on active transportation modes
Have the ability to read and interpret construction plans, estimates and specifications
Gain knowledge of established policies and operational methodologies including but not limited to Complete Streets
Work with administrative and financial procedures related to the project development process
Develop effective, efficient communication and working relationships internally, as well as with other State and Federal agencies and other external stakeholders
