The State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation (DOT), is now accepting applications for an exciting Transportation Engineer 3 position to assist in planning and developing projects to improve the conditions for the state’s active transportation system.
The Role: We are seeking a motivated candidate for this dynamic opportunity to improve the safety and accessibility of the state’s transportation system. The position is located at the DOT Headquarters in Newington. This position reports directly to a Supervising Transportation Planner or other employee of higher grade within the Office Strategic Planning & Projects.
The Project Coordination Unit oversees the Community Connectivity Grant Program (CCGP) and the Department’s Federally required Freight Program. The Project Coordination Unit also administers and participates in multi-modal transportation studies, both in-house and in coordination with Regional Councils of Governments, develops project concepts to improve safety and mobility for all modes, is responsible for performing Complete Streets project design reviews, and performs the Department’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordination.
IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:
Work closely with the principles and practices involved in transportation engineering including highway design, construction methods and procedures, and traffic engineering
Focus on active transportation modes
Read and interpret construction plans and specifications
Use knowledge of established policies and operational methodologies including but not limited to Complete Streets
Develop knowledge of administrative and financial procedures related to the project development process as well as the laws and regulations as they apply to FHWA, FTA and FRA and State funded projects
