Applicants with a bachelor’s degree in engineering will be hired at the Engineer level – $26.067.

Licensed Professional Engineer applicants will be hired at the Professional Engineer I level – $29. 716.

Examples of Work
Under the supervision of a Licensed Professional Engineer the successful applicant will be mentored and given opportunities to learn the different facets of field engineering by being exposed to a variety of work such as grading, pavements, and structures. You will be trained in various facets of heavy highway construction and operations including surveying, construction inspection, materials testing, project management, traffic control, project development, as well as managing staff and resources.

Examples of work: Performs engineering assignments related to construction; Applies engineering management principles to construction projects; Performs, coordinates, or supervises inspection and survey work on construction projects; Prepares project records, reports, and estimates; Interprets plans for contractors, resolves field issues, and organizes work activities; Provides project construction information to contractors, landowners, public officials, and the public.

Qualifications / Requirements
Engineer: Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline. This position requires passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam within one year of employment.

Professional Engineer I: Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline. Must possess a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license at the time of application and be licensed by the Nebraska Board of Engineers and Architects at time of employment or be able to obtain such license within 90 days of employment.

Must sit for PE at first opportunity.

PREFERRED: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering. Successful completion of FE/EIT examination. Experience in roadway design and/or highway construction.

OTHER: Engineering degrees must be from an EAC/ABET-accredited program (or evaluated by NCEES as equivalent). Regular and reliable attendance. Overnight travel will be required on occasion.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Effective communication skills are required to perform the essential function of the job. Must be able to work long hours in extreme temperatures.
