TxDOT’s Austin District is looking for ONE Transportation Engineer V for the North Travis Area Office located in Austin, TX. This position performs highly advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations, maintenance, and research. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.

Minimum Salary: 92,600.00  Maximum Salary: 123,000.00

Essential Duties:

Assists Project Managers to establish realistic and achievable schedule baselines for advanced and highly complex projects.
Reviews, develops and supports Standard Operating Procedures for developing, maintaining and archiving project schedules; managing resources; managing budgets; managing project changes, and managing quality performance measurements.
Analyzes and assists in the resolution of contract problems and disputes.
Assists with design, computer operations and plan preparation.
Coordinates with Area Engineers and reviews area office contract submissions.
Develops short-term and long-term goals and coordinates planning activities and resources required to meet goals.
Monitors contract performance, evaluates contract deliverables, reviews billing documentation, monitors the consultant’s compliance with the terms of the contract, and prepares and delivers a written evaluation of the consultant’s performance.
Performs and coordinates the review and processing of Plans, Specifications & Estimates (PS&E) submission, special specifications or special provisions.
Performs highly advanced and complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or related science bachelor’s or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.

Experience: 8 YEARS engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Licensed Prof Engineer*
*Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States, but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment.
