TxDOT’s Austin District North Travis Area Office is seeking a Transportation Engineer III or IV (Project Manager for the Capital Express North Job on IH-35). This position will support our construction and design programs through project management and project engineering of active construction or design projects throughout Northern Travis County. This position will also perform routine work related to transportation activities such as project planning and development, roadway and maintenance design, PS&E preparation, hydraulics, traffic analysis, scheduling, construction inspection, and training other employees.
Salary Plan/Grade:
Transportation Engineer III: B25 ($63,104.00 – $103,491.00/yearly)
Transportation Engineer IV: B26 ($69,415.00 – $117,397.00/yearly)
Minimum Salary: 63,104.00 Maximum Salary: 117,397.00 Pay Basis: Yearly

Position Description
Performs advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.
Essential Duties:
Applies to all positions:
Assists Area Engineer with construction contract administration matters
Assists in developing and/or monitoring budgets
Oversees construction and audit records
Analyzes and assists in the resolution of contract problems and disputes
Monitors consultants’ progress and work quality; checks invoices and associated documents; prepares supplemental agreements
Monitors contractors’ compliance with plans and specifications
Reviews shop drawings, plans, specifications, estimates, supplemental agreements, and change order requests
Assesses and reports actual project progress versus planned progress to determine trends and variances for complex projects.
Resolves differences between contractors and inspectors
Reviews change orders, supplemental agreements, memorandum agreements and extra work orders, reviews monthly and final estimates prior to submittal
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. This position requires you to drive for TxDOT.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or related science bachelor’s or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.
Transportation Engineer III: 6 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent).Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Licenses and Certifications:
Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
