TxDOT’s San Antonio District is looking for an Assistant Area Engineer for the Hondo Area Office. This position will cover Medina, Atascosa, Frio and McMullen Counties. The Hondo Area Office offers a great challenge and exposure for professional growth. You will have the opportunity to work in all four counties overseeing Construction Projects, Local Government Outreach and working with Maintenance Sections to help improve the roadways for the citizens of Texas.
Minimum Salary: 97,010.00 Maximum Salary: 164,069.00 Pay Basis: Yearly

Travel: Yes, 5 % of the Time Shift: Day Job Shift Details: Mon-Fri; 8-5 Location Flexibility: Onsite Location Flexibility Details: Available to work out of either Hondo Area Office or Pleasanton Maintenance Office.
Essential Duties:
Assists Area Engineer in projecting personnel and equipment needed for each project; as required responds for emergency
situations/conditions to assist with office activities.
Conducts pre-construction, Employee Forum and safety meetings.
Coordinates Federal Highway Administration and Construction Division inspection tours.
Determines quantities and estimates cost.
Inspects roads, monitors maintenance activities and coordinates scheduling of maintenance work with construction
projects.
Plans and schedules work of construction personnel and/or provides them on the job training.
Prepares and recommends field changes and supplemental agreements.
Prepares and reviews monthly and final estimates and final construction reports.
Resolves public complaints.
Reviews plans prepared by area office personnel; checks designs, specifications and estimates
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or related science bachelor’s or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.
Experience: 4 years transportation engineering. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated part-time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
Licensed Prof Engineer*
*Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States, but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment.
