The Utah Department of Transportation, Traffic Management Division, is seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual to fill the role of Lighting Engineer (Engineering Manager I). To be successful in this role you will need a mixture of technical knowledge and communication and organizational skills.
The Lighting Program manages street lighting on freeways throughout Utah and is now also taking on the responsibility for lighting at signalized intersections on state routes throughout the state.
Principal Duties
As the Lighting Engineer, you will oversee UDOT’s Lighting Program. Your duties include:
- Overseeing a crew of lighting technicians/electricians. UDOT expects this crew to increase from 2 to 8 technicians, and you will be involved in hiring and performance management.
- Establishing performance measures and asset management program for street lighting.
- Working with management to set performance goals for the lighting maintenance system and helping the program achieve those goals.
- Coordinating repairs and maintenance of street lighting statewide, ensuring that all areas of the State are adequately served.
- Working with management to develop a program of preventive maintenance and proactive management of street lighting.
- Preparing packages of work for contractors and ensuring that the work is completed properly.
- Managing the budget of the Lighting Program.
- Developing and updating standards for lighting systems.
- Coordinating with UDOT roadway project teams to address lighting needs.
- Receiving, addressing, and responding to public inquiries and complaints about street lighting.
Minimum Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must:
- Be registered as a professional engineer (PE) in Utah.
- Have at least two (2) years of engineering experience following licensure as a PE.
- Have excellent communication skills
Preferences
Preference may be given to those with education and/or work experience in the field of street lighting, electrical engineering, or a related field.
