The Virginia Department of Transportation’s Structure and Bridge Division is seeking an Engineer (wage) to provide design and construction phase support services for the construction and maintenance of structures and bridges.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Designing, analyzing, and checking structural elements.
Preparing bridge plans, sketches, and structural drawings.
Reviewing shop plans to ensure compliance with AASHTO and VDOT specifications, and are geometrically correct and meet requirements of project design plans.
Investigating the condition of existing structures and assisting in developing the scope of proposed bridge rehabilitations; analyzing structures for safe load carrying capacity and performing structural calculations to ensure soundness and compliance of structural elements.
Reviewing/developing office practices, standards, and specifications, construction plans to ensure accuracy of content design and conformance to codes.
Providing engineering reports and reviewing consultant work.
This is an hourly wage position that can work up to 1,500 maximum hours between May 1 and April 30 each year and is not eligible for state benefits. On average, this position will work no more than 29 hours per week.
