WSDOT is seeking a talented and innovative engineer to fill an Assistant Project Support Engineer (TE2) vacancy located in the Mount Baker Area Headquarters Office in Burlington. In this role, you will prepare, assist and/or review design and construction documents to ensure compliance with WSDOT standards, polices and legal requirements which could include assisting with the review of Design Documentation Packages, Basis of Design, ADA review, Maximum Extent Feasible,
Channelization Plans, and Construction Documentation reviews. The successful candidate will be responsible for the communicating the status of documentation reviews of design, inspection, and contract administration with the Project Engineer’s Offices (PEO) and internal stakeholders. The Assistant Project Support Engineer also reviews and comments on external (developer, city, county, tribal) proposals for compliance with standards on state routes. What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Assistant Project Support Engineer will:
Review the work of engineers and technicians, ensuring that WSDOT, State, and Federal standards for design, materials testing, inspection, and documentation are followed.
Provide training, direction, mentoring, and coaching to engineers and technicians in their preparation of plans, standards, and estimates.
Work with Project Engineer’s Office to add supporting documents to the Electronic Content Management (ECM) System.
Review and comment on Plans, Specifications & Estimate (PS&E) packages.
Prepare, review, support the development of construction documentation to ensure all contracts are administered in compliance with WSDOT standards, polices, and legal requirements.
Perform Initial and Follow-up Documentation reviews, conduct material documentation reviews, process As-Builts, review Final Records, review Final Estimate Packages and process Change Orders.
Provide guidance to the PEO’s, Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) support, on-the-job training, and ECM support.
Assist in the preparation of the annual Mt Baker Area Lessons Learned event and assist with emergency contract preparation.
File management, upload electronic documents to ECM.
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
A high school diploma or equivalent.
Two (2) years of experience as a Transportation Technician 3 or equivalent experience in Design/Construction.
Ability to review, evaluate and correct, material produced by engineers and technicians in support of all phases of project delivery.
Ability to provide training, direction, mentoring, and coaching to engineers and technicians in their preparation of
plans, standards, and estimates.
Ability to communicate, interact and coordinate work activities with supervisor, peers, Project Engineers, local agencies, tribes, developers, utilities, support groups, consultants, and support group staff verbally and in writing.
A valid driver’s license.
It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
Two (2) years of experience as a Transportation Engineer 1 or equivalent.
An in-depth understanding of design and documentation process within the WSDOT.
Ability to solve problems using mathematics, including trigonometry, algebra, and geometry.
Proficiency with computer software including Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Office, Micro-Station, ECM – Electronic Content Management, TEIS – Transportation Executive Information System, Congos, Adobe, Unifier, PMRS, Primavera P6, SharePoint, E-base, and ProjectWise.

This position offers flexible/hybrid remote work options.
The schedule for this position is either Monday thru Friday 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM or 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday thru Thursday or Tuesday thru Friday 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM (four 10-hour days).
In additional to the salary range listed, a general wage increase of 3.25% will be applied for all state employees on July 1, 2022.
